Hello, The symbols history post is very informative and well written for sure. I`ve spent considerable time reading about Reiki history for the last few months. One thing that becomes apparent in short order is that there is myrid confusion surrounding Usui-sensei`s spiritual practices. This article refers to James Deacon`s website which has approximently 275 pages of Reiki info and history....something to be admired, as this fellow has put great effort into trying to clarify Reiki history and practice. I have felt, through much of the history that I`ve read, that the authors, come to dead ends regarding factual evidence at times....and as any good writer will do...an assumption of fact, is used to propel a certain line of thought or direction. One thing I noticed in this article was the claim that Usui-sensei was a Tendai Buddhist...well maybe so...But I have also read that there was a problem between Usui-sensei and his father(Tendai Buddhist) regarding spirituality...a problem to the point that Usui`s father would`nt allow his name to be spoken in his house. I have read other`s(James Deacon) opinions that Usui-sensei adopted many Shingon Buddhist practices as well....so I`ve always felt that Usui was a person who borrowed practices from differing Buddhist sects to suit what rang clear to him as an individual.....Once again..I have no idea if Usui-sensei was strictly Tendai...but from what I`ve read, I`m not sure anyone else does either.... ;D
