I've noticed lately that when using Reiki I use the symbols more seldom. Even when using distant healing, I just think of it and focus and it gets done.
I've also noticed that I don't need to draw the symbols, just visualise them or think of their name and it gets done.
Is that a normal step in the self-development in the Reiki path?

Hi Marcus I tend to do everything backwards... at first I rarely used the symbols... guess I was too lazy or sumthin'. Nowadays I am fascinated with the power that lies in the simple visualizing the shape of a symbol or just to sort of think its name 3 times. no rush and no rules. do what you feel comes natural love Michael - the unorthodox

I think that a lot of people use symbols more seldom I could not to set 2 or 3 symbols in the ball of energy... my guide makes mi to know that is not neeed.... but while I teach people on 2 level of reiki I do it "traditionally" and thay feel symbols, ( some times in cold but energy works wery sucsessfully) I do not use some symbols anymore - like Johre, like star... energy is czanging ... is developing I think....

I don't remember where I read this, but it was on a Reiki manual, and it said that unless you're using the symbols, the energy you're sending is not Reiki. From what everyone else has said here though, it seems to be otherwise.

Hi Astral Yeah you're right........it is otherwise ;D ;D ;D Reiki flows by your intent..............and in Usui Reiki level l, you are taught to use Reiki by intent, and are not attuned to, or taught to use the symbols. love stef

i've also found that as long as i can form a clear intent, the reiki just flows... i still use the symbols though, when i attune others and when i need a little more focus.
;D

I hardly use symbols. Only think of the intent, and riki flows.

Greetings,
Regarding symbols, I tend to always use them. Seeing that so many of you did not use them I had to think about why I always do? I have decided it is because I like the ritual aspect of using the symbols in my healing work. Whenever I attune people I have a small ritual I perform beforehand and I always send the relevant symbols with the attunement.
I was once being attuned to Usui Master/Teacher by my Sensi (Master who attuned me), and I also received many heart symbols which I had never seen before and were in no way related to the Usui method of healing. Later I discussed with him the extra heart symbols that came to me through meditation. He was not surprised as he had earlier attuned someone to Reiki Scheim who's symbols are all heart shaped. It seemed they were still in the aura and I had picked up that attunement also.
I think this is why they are important to me.
The symbol I always use what ever method is involved is the Cho-Ku-Rei, The power Symbol. Another name for this symbol is Dai-Ko-Mio. I was taught that this is the symbol that gets the Reiki flowing, it clears rooms and all spaces, clearing out negative energy.
It only takes me 3 seconds to draw on my palm or in the air so its worth it for me. I would love to hear comments on what I have said. Its something discussed in a lot of Reiki groups on line and face to face.
Blessings,
Lady S. x

Lady S, First I have to say thank you for being such a positive influence I was taught different than you, I was taught that Dai-Ko-Myo is the "Master" symbol and is mostly used in attunements. I was not attuned to it until I reached Usui Level 3. I use the Cho-Ku-Rei symbol for power and I use it most often. I do use my master symbol in healings besides attunements, but mainly when I am asking my guide, angels, and HS for assistance in healings. There are my two cents Love, Suzie

Ironic, but lately when meditating and / or giving healing, I have seen some strange symbols that I don't know what they are for ;D

Personally i believe if we receive symbols we should work with them.If we are unaware of their symbolic value we should put focus upon them, the outcome should provide us with the answers we need to apply them in our workings.Asking our Higher self/ Spirit inspirers should yield answers as well.

Well, so far I've been a good boy and drawed all the symbols I got on a paper, so I can go back to it later and see what they are and try to figure out how to use them.

Hi All,
This is such a moot issue. To use or not to use symbols, and if so, which symbols? Only the ones you have been attuned to or others as well?
I notice Marcus, that you are drawing them and working with them which is a good idea. This is what I have done:
I bought a book approx 3"x4" with approx 100 plain pages. Its perfect for carrying around in my pocket or handbag. Any Reiki symbols I have come across, whether attuned to that system or not, I have put in my book. I draw the symbol on one page and on the page opposite I put down information on its name, its meaning, how it is pronounced and its uses.
I think that once you have been attuned to Usui Master it is feasible to use other symbols in emergency's or when you feel those energies will help the patient.
This is just my method of working and everyone should find the method that suits them best.
Good Luck.
