Set Your Spirit Free
We often feel trapped within the routines of our everyday lives. In order to achieve a true state of relaxation, we must make time for uninterrupted leisure. Set aside an hour a day, or even a day a week if you can, for your chosen leisure pursuit. Take all the necessary steps to ensure that you will not be called away or interupted, and leave the telephone off the hook - then, set your spirit free.

Accept Change
Resist the temptation to be static. Sometimes it seems safer to stay where we are than to venture into the unknown or to accept change. But, in reality, true relaxation comes not from trying to administer control over life's natural flow, but from allowing ourselves to be carried along by that flow without fear of the future, or nostalgia for the past.

Believe in Yourself
Each of us has infinite potential to achieve our goals - even those that seem the most far-reaching. Mark out realistic stepping stones toward your aims, and try each day to work toward reaching another stone. Most importantly, do not feel disappointed if, on one day, you make only half your intended progress, or even no progress at all - the mere act of thinking about your goals will help to bring you closer to them.

Be Influential
Once we see the world as our world, not theirs, and ourselves as influential agents in the complex interplay of world, self, and body, then fear starts to drain away. Peace and harmony approach, like shy creatures to the hand that feeds them. Take your place in your world, and imagine that you are the conductor who leads the orchestra of life - it is your decision to increase the pace of the music, and yours to slow it, if you wish, to the gentle rhythms of peace.

Focus on Inner Stillness
In the eye of a storm there is stillness. No matter what happens at any moment during any day, however hectic or troublesome things may appear, and however many tasks we seem to be trying to do at once, we need only to turn inward to find a haven of peace. To access your haven, close your eyes and imagine a still and gentle light within you. Focus on the tranquillity it brings.

Value Your Blessings
We are all endowed with spiritual blessings, among them happiness, health, truth, and inner stillness. Spend today bringing happiness to yourself and your friends and family. Tomorrow, eat especially healthily. The next day, be true to yourself - if something makes you unhappy, try something else. The day after, spend time in quiet contemplation. The reward for being rich in these blessings is a fulfilled and peaceful life.

Make Things Happen
According to the old adage, if a butterfly flaps its wings in Japan, there is a hurricane in New York. Everything is energized, and we should never feel meaningless, because each release of our energy has incalculable repercussions all around us. Take a conscious decision to remind yourself every day of the importance of the energy that you send out into the world.

Make a Palmist's Kiss
Shakespeare's Juliet said: "Saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch. And palm to palm is holy palmists' kiss." This gesture makes a fine relaxation exercise for you and a partner or friend. Imagine that you are filled with fast-flowing, positive energy. Sit facing each other and press your palms against your partner's. Close your eyes and imagine the flow of energy - warm and invigorating - passing through your palms and coursing through your body. Interlock fingers and squeeze gently in reassurance. Imagine that the energy has cleansed your body of anxiety.
