hello to everyone. As most users of the forum, i also think that the symbols are not sacred but I understand those who think that they are. Indeed on the dictionary the word ‘sacred’ has one of this meaning : ‘that is, or is in close relationship with the gods’. In this sense, if a person believes in a god, might consider reiki as sacred and therefore extend the concept to the symbols, used as a means to facilitate the union with reiki and thus with god. But about the fact that the symbols should be secret we would like greater clarity.Someone on the forum (and I read the same thing on other sites) has said that some of the symbols displayed on structures or temples in the east. This fact would reinforce my (our) opinion. But there is evidence of this, for example photo? If so there would be no more doubt !
Diego.

I think the symbols are actually there to help us build our faith in it. A visual cue that identifies the thought of the energy. The thought itself is what brings the energy in. I dont use symbols when I use reiki. I use an energy that covers the entire spectrum of healing. I call it "white light healing." Heals all instead of just healing one particular thing. Its simply a matter of having faith in your ability to channel it and believing its possible. The energy itself is conscious and is actually more intelligent than the healer himself. . The healer is more like a wire that completes the circuit between source and the patient. I'm completely powerless as far as healing is concerned. God has the power. I just relay the message. There are many forms of Reiki out there, but in my opinion they are just labels we put on the energy to identify it. All forms of Reiki come from the same source/light. Just channel the whole nine yards and let everthing heal. Simplicity is Genius, Complexity just gets in the way.

I like your thinking, I rarely use symbols, but the mantra associated (especially for CKR and DKM), and I think we are just a doorway. But my post was focused on a question of method. There are things that are not debatable, if one says that the symbols are not secret but visible somewhere in the world (in that part where Reiki was born) then it is good that there is evidence of this, otherwise it creates a confusion, or the fact exists or does not exist, can not be an opinion. I was hoping to get some answers about Diego

The symbols were introduced into Reiki teaching by Mikao Usui as an aid for students to focus on their intent. When we focus on symbols or mantras it helps to clear our mind of other 'clutter'. It was Hawayo Takata who 'introduced' the secrecy into Reiki and the symbols when she brought Reiki to Western society and decided that people would only value Reiki if it had a price to it...........$10,000 to become a Reiki Master! You will find that the people who teach that the symbols are secret and sacred are the people who charge money for Reiki..............the more they charge, the more secret/sacred they believe the symbols are. Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, made Reiki and the symbols freely available for all. www.aetw.org/reiki_symbols.htmllove stef

thanks for your reply Stef. I have experienced first hand what you say! but many people think they are secret in good faith. that is why I was looking for an effective proof of the contrary, in order to properly inform those who asked me something about this topic. The link you put is very interesting. I will read it carefully. From a quick reading (I have some problems with English ) I understand that some symbols (4th for ex.) are ideograms that then express the concept of the symbol itself. In this case there would be nothing secret! Diego

hello Everyone,
I`ve seen alot of these opinions at various websites. So....I gotta ask....Anyone here ever tried to investigate the origins of the symbols? The info is out there if one looks. The opinion that Usui included them as a teaching aid is questionable....Two are kanji...not really symbols....ever heard the term nao hi ?...or....Kiriku....Lots think the symbols are not important...I cannot agree...
