Higher nature and Lower nature
Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov
According to Master Aivanhov the 3 fundamental activities that characterize the human being are:
- the thought (whose instrument is the intellect)
- the feeling (whose instrument is the heart)
- the action (whose instrument is the physical body)
Not only is the physical body made of matter, as the heart and the intellect are instruments of matter, too. However, their matter is subtler than the one of the physical body.
An ancient esoteric tradition teaches that the vehicle of feelings is the astral body whereas the one of the intellect is the mental body. The triad made of the physical, the astral and the mental bodies, however, represents our imperfect human nature.
The same faculties of thought, feeling and action are within us on a higher level, where their vehicles are the causal body, the buddhic one and the atmic one that build our divine Self.
- The physical body that represents the strength, the will and the potency on the material level, is connected with the atmic body that represents the same on the divine level.
- The astral body that represents the feelings and selfish and personal desires is connected with the buddhic body that represents divine love.
- The mental body that represents the normal and selfish thoughts is connected with the causal body that represent divine wisdom.
Form, Content and Meaning
The physical world, the spiritual world and the divine world… or if you like: the form, the content and the meaning, i.e. the world of facts, the world of laws, and the world of principles.
Yes, it is the same trinity: the body, the soul and the spirit. The spirit is an expression of the divine world, the soul corresponds to the spiritual world and the body corresponds to the physical world.
Thus, the soul places itself between matter and spirit. It is a bridge, a vehicle that transports the elements from heaven to earth and those from earth to heaven.
Anything that comes down and anything that comes up, goes through the soul.
The spirit cannot but tend to come downwards and the body cannot but tend to go upwards, but the soul goes up and comes down between the two.
That is why spirit cannot have power over matter if not by passing through the soul.
Look at what happens in nature: the sun cannot act directly on the earth, it needs some bridging elements and these are the air and the water.
In the same way the spirit cannot touch our physical body directly, it needs a bridging element that is our soul.
The 3 worlds
According to the initiatic science there are 3 worlds:
- the Divine World, that is the world of ideas
- the Psychic World, that is the one of thoughts and feelings or more precisely of morality
- the Physical World, that is the one of forms and materialisation.
The material world is connected with the moral world and the latter is connected with the world of ideas that is situated on a higher level. Human beings do not pay attention to certain relationships because they have not studied or observed things yet but as long as they do not fill this gap, they will have to face tremendous consequences.
(…) The field of morality has its laws, too though they are subtler than the physical laws; actually the physical laws are not only written inside the body but in man's soul and spirit as well.
(…)The one, who does not respect them, will be appointed as a selfish person, an egocentered one. He will be soon deprived from any support and even from friends.
(…) Anything is united, anything is linked; The moral world is governed by eternal laws that is necessary to know. As long as man does not understand that those laws exist, he will not be able to make true progress.
