I’d like to start a discussion topic about how Reiki is changing, and how the way we live our lives in our ever changing, fast living society is affecting Reiki. Here are a few questions to get it started. I’d love to hear the views of other people here…..and I’ll be happy to add my own. How do you feel about all the different Reikis available today? Do you feel that all the different Reikis are all part of the same healing energy? Do you feel that there are a lot of people going for attunement after attunement to get Reiki flowing stronger quickly, instead of working with Usui Reiki daily over a period of time to increase the flow of Reiki? Is Usui Reiki, and the work of Mikao Usui at risk of being de-valued because of all the new ‘stronger' Reiki styles that are being introduced? love stef

Hi Stef, With all the different Reikis available it seems to be somewhat confusing and overwhelming but thats probably because I'm relatively new to all this. There is so much out there and that is exciting! It seems to be that the purest Reiki is the Usui and everything else is a personalized, modified version of this -according to each person's belief system. But no matter which way you look at it, it is all from the same Source perhaps just a different part of that Source..... as there are no limits and the Source is ever expanding and creating. My view anyways. Whatever works for each person for the greater good ,for healing with love is the way it should be. Are the new styles of Reiki stronger? My view is that Usui is a good basis and if one didn't want to go any further than that modality it would still be fine and just as efficient. People personalize and create styles because thats what works for them and for others who share similar mind sets and belief systems . There are as many Ways to the Source ( God/ Godess) as there are people. Vive La Difference! Light and LoVE Jadert

I do feel that the new "flavors" are just variations of the same healing energy, but in our more=better society (world-wide), we feel this compulsive need to obtain as many different forms as possible in a short amount of time. I have seen people advertise that they have over a 100 different masters, does that mean that they truely are a Master? (My guess, probably not). I feel that Usui Reiki is the "best", but all the flavors are just different ways of looking at it.
On the note that these new styles are stronger, I PERSONALLY think this is just a marketing technique used to "sell" the new style. I don't think one style is any stronger or of higher virbrations than any other. It is just how well a person connects with the style in question (and that is what makes it stronger, our percieved connection).
Hey this could be profound, or it could be just some guy ranting/raving at 1.00 am. Goddess only knows......

Hi Anthony 1.00am rants are the best ;D I agree with you......some people do seem to be 'collecting' the different styles like designer labels and I'm sure that they can't be using all/any of them to their full potential. Reiki is about our intent.......it should be plain and simple. I believe that once we are attuned to Reiki the energy is there for us to use in whichever way we choose. I have used symbols and mantras from different styles of Reiki, and I've never felt the need to be attuned to them. I read the different manuals then use my intent to channel them.....mainly for my own experimental purposes ;D......I do sometimes feel different sensations, but I don't feel that any of them are any stronger than Usui Reiki. I have found that by working with Usui Reiki it has got stronger and stronger for me so I guess that I'll be sticking with what I've got and enjoying the new experiences and sensations that it continues to bring me ;D Jadeart made a very valid point in that all Reiki is from the same Source.......I guess it is up to us all to use it as we feel guided to ;D love stef

Hi guys I think that people should use any form of Reiki they are comfortable with and as many "flavours" as they are directed to use. Since I believe it is all from the same source, and it truly is intent that is important, what name you attach to it isn't that significant. However, I think without understanding/ studying Usui Reiki, the other so-called "flavours" can get a little lost in translation and there are people out there capitalizing on others' lack of understanding ie. charging outrages prices, advertising bigger, stronger better Reiki, lineage that is more "pure", and generally making up their own rules as they go along. I also think embracing and living the principles as set forth by Mikao Usui is important and necessary on the path to enlightenment, healing, and giving/receiving Reiki. Just my 2cents worth. ;D Great topic, Stef. Love, Mikilangela

Its a journey which one is going through like anything else in life. Each one alights at the station he likes. Some do not alight at all. But the source of all forms, variations etc is ONE and only ONE. Thats Divine, ALL THAT IS, GOD or whatever else one gives a name to that one source.

the energy is the energy...
the different styles of reiki are ways the human spirit "interfaces" with the energy. any style is no stronger than the other, but i believe the intent behind the practice is what gives the "strength" to the practitioner.
and yet, as with anything, there will be people that would love to learn the other reiki styles for different reasons. i agree with anthony that some would collect reiki styles the way people collect pokemon or transformers (or crystals ;D) but they are free to do that. those who learn different styles may also wish to do so in order to experience the way other cultures and peoples interface with the energy. and that's cool too.
but in the end, the energy is the energy.

I think Usui Reiki is good and fine and dandy, and I doubt I'll really get into the other flashy kinds of Reiki.
However, I believe that there is no one religion that will fit every person, and I think the same goes for Reiki. Just as I don't incorporate fairies into my personal beliefs, I don't think that there is anything wrong with someone incorporating fairies into their Reiki practice. If it hums nice for you, it's all good and well.
I do take issue with a certain Reiki style if part of their marketing is that it is "100 times stronger than such and such". It's like people will believe that they need to have as many fancy symbols drawn over their crown chakra's as possible in order to get any strength, rather than, as stef originally said, "working with Usui Reiki daily over a period of time to increase the flow of Reiki".
I appreciate the way we can take something like Reiki or religion and either find a tradition that suits us or 'make up' our own, but I think I may be a bit of a purist when it comes to Reiki and all the different kinds. I like my Usui.
