I'm curious.....Suppose you had a devoutly Southern Baptist friend who wanted to learn Reiki, but was not sure if it is in keeping with her very conventional Christian spiritual beliefs. What would you tell her? I know we have some Ministers here.... I am curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this subject, from all angles. Love, Joanie

My first question to her would be regarding how it is taught that Jesus was able to heal with a touch. I would then go on to mention all of the known priests who lay hands and leave a person feeling a renewed sense of life, and those who are reported to have healed disease. While many of them did not use the system currently known as Reiki, the source and the effect is all the same. Only the names and faces have changed over the many years. Reiki is also known as a gateway to God's love. Reiki practitioners carry that love freely from the universal source (God) and spread it to those in need. We ourselves are not playing God, but merely providing a channel through which the healing energy of the heart can pass much as the priests are charged to carry the word of God to their churches. In that, it is provided purely by choice. The energy cannot and will not take away free will. If someone does not wish to accept the gift, then nothing we do can force it upon that person. Ultimately, the gift of Reiki also depends upon the feelings of the person who wishes to learn and pass it on. Using Reiki does not need to change someone's beliefs at all. Instead, it can fit right into what is already in the heart. If she wishes to learn, then she is of course welcome to do so. Even if she receives the gift and later changes her mind, she merely needs to make the choice to be free of it, and it will be so.

Hi Joannie, This is a very interesting question ;D ;D I know a few devout christians .In my early twenties(in the 80's) i was acquiring a thirst for counseling and attended a course in listening skills run by southampton pastoral counseling service(because my mother started that way!) I was shocked to learn from our teacher that yoga and horoscopes were against god and connected with the devil, This was a big surprise to me because my father was a church of england priest (sadly unable to ask by that time because he had died 2 yrs before) but he'd had never expressed any opinion of that kind I'm not a church goer now, I feel my spiritual needs are broader and i seek my truths in many places we have a Vishnu temple opposite our house and Noah and jemima are at schools which host children of many cultures ,so celebrating religious festivals of all faiths.......I'm digressing, but there is a point... I steer a path away from the occult and I'm fairly well attuned to things of an un lit path( tried a website recently that was definitely dodgy!!!) Made me feel very uneasy But reiki is love ;D God is love ;D and I have never felt anything but good from reiki ;D Ask your friend about the Laying on of hands if she is in doubt, My father received this from his bishop three months before his death. Jesus performed the same countless times she can read in the bible (cant give reference passages) I am wary of saying that i do reiki to devout Christians but i was surprised to find that one of the most devout I know believes in it ;D Please let us know if she comes to terms with it, God will tell her if she's on the right path, that is not a matter of what is in her head but what she feels is right in her heart and soul. Send reiki to her situation!!If she is happy to receive... if she has to wrestle it in her conscience she probably shouldn't ... Dont I go on??? In light( I think ;D) Imogen

i might past this.spirit resides, allows for all possibilities to be available to us. The greatest level of influence is available at this subtle level of creation. Quantum Mechanics calls the subtle level of creation the unified field, Taoists call it the Tao, Christians and Jews call it God, Muslims call it Allah, Rastafarians call it Jah, It is called Brahma by the Veda; but it is recognized as the essence of life by many.
Yoga Verse: She no longer bound to her body, her soul freed from the mind, was like a bird freed from it¹s cage.

Plain and simple....reiki is NOT a religion. You are channeling energy (you're the tool in which the energy travels through) from either the universe or the earth through your body to a person. It's pure love. Reiki = meaning universal life force energy. In layman's terms they bill this as a Japanese form of relaxation. We have a more scientific explanation posted. love ruth freereiki.proboards43.com/index.cgi?board=39&action=display&thread=1164739329

Dear Ruth
I should know better than to make a comment on the subject of religion. on the subject of(Reiki and Christian ) cannot help myself you are totally right Reiki is not a religion .however the question was can you be a Christian and do Reiki I think that depends on the religion .just recently a woman I know who suffers from very advanced arthritis I explained Reiki to her no way .so I proceed to explain following the breath five count that she she might relax and ease the pain as soon as the family discovered this was meditation it was banned as they explained to me if you relax your mind the devil will jump in .so I must watch her cry with pain and do nothing. I remember back in the 1950s when I was a kid my mother was Jewish and was a kabala’s and good people told me and my father mum was a witch the reason mum use to make small bags of herbs to put under your pillow to make you sleep and some to hang round your neck for the flu .now today most sane people understand a lavender bag and aromatherapy just had to make a comment.
Sidney.

Hi Joannie Great question ;D ;D ;D Personally, I don't follow any organised religion because I believe that they all preach fear.......which you can see from the replies already here............yoga, horoscopes, meditation............all connected with the devil We all know that is not true...........some religions believe that God cannot exist without there being a devil...............so if you try to tell someone that although there may be dark spirits, there is no devil, they won't be able to believe that because to them, that would mean there's no God. Reiki isn't a religion................but it does sadly go against some religious beliefs to channel Reiki. love stef

I totally ;D understand and Stef said it beautifully . The lady just needs explaination of what it is. They have no understanding how something so lovely can happen to them and not feel it's outside sources interfering. She just doesn't know. Maybe to help her, let her know that you can call in God, angels or any that she worships to help her in her healing process. The basis of it is pure love . When you put it that way to her, it might open a window for her to 'see' in. I'm glad this came up, thanks for posting this great comment(s). love ruth

Thanks for the info, everyone. All very insightful answers. ;D
I posted this same questions on another Reiki forum, and several very Baptist forum members responded to say that they themselves practice Reiki, for which I was very glad.
Sometimes it's hard to know how to explain things to folks if you don't know where they are coming from. I know plenty about Reiki, but very little about fundamentalist Christian dogma. But y'all have helped clear the way. Thanks!
Love, Joanie
