Merry Meet folks
What are your thoughts on this, I am somewhat bemused.
A friend of mine has been told by her Master that she cannot channel Reiki while she is pregnant. Personally I've never heard of this and cannot think of any reason why this would be so.
As we know children are very open to both giving and receiving healing, the unborn child I would think would draw the very most loving of energies.
I was taught that Reiki is safe for pregnant women, I helped my daughter-in-law through her pregnancy and labour and I know the baby loved it.
She has asked me as a Master to help her and I do not wish to disagree with her Master as we are good friends, but personally I cannot think of a sound reason why this other friend should not use Reiki to help her through her pregnancy.
It would be really helpful to know your thoughts on this.
Thank you
Namaste - Wolfsinger xx

My Master told me that pregnant women can recieve Reiki up to the 7 th month pregnancy and at the end just before the childbirth because it is safer that way. Baby could want to get out sooner than it should (7th month is too early). But when due day is closer it can help make easier give birth.

The positive effects of Reiki can be extended to pregnant women as well as the unborn baby.
Reiki is the practice of sending universal energies for healing purposes to a patient.
The practitioner uses a combination of meditating on symbols, crystal grids and hand positions to harness and concentrate the energies to the patient.
There are seven different chakras that are usually focused on. The crown chakra, the root chakra, the solar plexus, the heart, the throat and the brow or third eye chakra are commonly used in Reiki.
Reiki is used during the first stages of pregnancy to relieve the stress and illness that the mother is feeling. Morning sickness and the stress of the body changing can be harmful to the mother’s aura.
Reiki can restore the balance and health to the mother. Common chakras concentrated on during this time are the third eye chakra and the solar plexus chakra, as well as the Sacral Chakra. These chakras correspond to the head, abdomen and reproductive organs, respectively.
Reiki is safe to use during all stages of pregnancy from conception to childbirth.
Couples who are having trouble getting pregnant sometimes seek Reiki treatments for their reproductive problems. Men as well as women have shown benefits from these Reiki therapy sessions.
During pregnancy, tests conducted at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut shows that Reiki used during pregnancy reduced anxiety by 94 percent, nausea by 80 percent, pain by 78 percent and improved sleep by 86 percent. (www.magma.ca/~peterz/parenting) During labor, pain is associated with the back and pelvic area.
Reiki used during this stage has been shown to control and lessen pain during labor. This type of therapy has also shown to make delivery easier on the mom and baby.
Also, mothers who have had previous c-sections who receive Reiki in later pregnancies show a clear reduction in the need for cesarean surgeries.
As far as post-partum treatment, Reiki is shown to reduce the emotional rollercoaster of adjusting to a new baby. Hand positions and chakra concentrations are great for stress reduction and anxiety reduction.
Mothers who have used Reiki during and after pregnancy can better adjust to their babies. Babies are also better adjusted to the outside world when the mother has had Reiki therapy during her pregnancy.
After the baby is born, it can be a stressful time for the baby. When Reiki is used in the delivery room it makes an easier transition for the baby.
It also reduces anxiety, sleep problems, colic, and enhances motor activity and active sleep. An even newer trend in Reiki during pregnancy is certifying fathers so that they can get involved in the treating of their partner and child.
They are able to treat themselves when they feel stressed, treat mom during the different phases of pregnancy and delivery as well as the baby during late night feedings or colic fits.

I wanted to add that with everything, everyone has their own beliefs, their own traditions and not but not least, their own opinions....

Thank you Ruth for your very comprehensive reply.
However, my friend is not saying that she should not receive Reiki, but that she has been told that she should not practise Reiki, ie she should not channel it herself.
Do you have any thoughts on this?
I cannot see how being a channel for Healing for yourself can be any different to opening yourself to receive a healing from someone else.
I also cannot see why she should not be able to give Reiki to her family, if she wishes to.

Merry Meet to you too Wolfsinger Thank you for posting this thread and thank you to the voice of reason among us, aka Ruth !!! Your question illustrates once again the Reiki Fallacies that have developed as Reiki has become more widespread - usually rooted in Fear. I would like to know - did your friend's Master try to channel Reiki while she (or was it a He?!) was pregnant and did it result in a premature birth or other event that would lend some weight to the theory that it would be dangerous to channel Reiki whilst pregnant? The bottom line is when we channel Reiki we are working with an 'Intelligent' force - WE ARE NOT IN CONTROL OF IT. Therefore, what will be, will be - regardless of what we do (without being wreckless of course). If you believe, as we are taught and indeed teach others, that Reiki works for the highest good - then that not only is valid for the Receiver of the healing but also for the Channel. In the words of Christopher Penczak " If you take on a lot of limited programming from others, you experience a lot of limits." Such wise words ..... "An it harm none, do what ye Will" Ladylight

MM Ladylight Thank you for your wise words. How true. In my own teaching, I do try to inject a modicom of common sense. This Master is much more experienced than I am though, although I do believe that some teachers pass on a lot of negativity without giving it enough thought. Indeed and what a charismatic teacher he is. It has been very interesting and helpful to hear all your views, thank you all again. Blessings - WS x
