Are you celebrating this holiday season? It doesn’t matter which holidays you celebrate, or even if you don’t celebrate at all, this season can still bring many different emotions to the surface.
Tis’ the season to be jolly? Perhaps, but it may also be a time that you feel fear, loneliness, sadness, anger, abandoned, or whatever emotion is most important for you to become aware of at this time of year. Allow yourself to be true to your feelings, for this is a time that brings forth great potential for transformation and rebirth.
There is an ancient Shinto saying about the winter solstice time “Both Heaven and Earth come from one’s own heart”.
It is a time for darkness to open to the light, a time to really feel that which you have held in the shadows, tried to avoid, or been afraid to confront. It is a time to bring these feelings forth, acknowledge them, accept them, honor them, learn from them and move forward into the light of your true self. It is only possible to BE one’s true self by BEing true to yourself. Once we have done this, we can fully experience the joy, peace, love, compassion, good will and comfort that the holiday season is meant to bring us.
I believe that the solstice time arouses whatever we most need to heal within the deepest level of our being. It is an ideal time to receive Reiki from someone or, if you are Reiki-trained, to give yourself regular Reiki sessions. It is particularly helpful to work with the mental/emotional healing symbol to deal with any type of painful emotion that comes up, and to embrace joyous feelings as well. The distant healing symbol can also help you touch into the original cause of the pain, send energy to that point in your consciousness and bring healing forth into the present moment.
My most memorable holiday spiritual growth experience happened in 1999. It was going to be my first Christmas alone after being married for nearly 20 years and raising four children. My biggest fear at that time was being alone on Christmas Eve. I tried my best to make sure that didn’t happen, but as the power of the Divine and the Solstice energies would have it, I was able to confront my fear. I was going to be alone!
As twilight gave way to darkness, I lit several candles in my apartment, and sat quietly in my living room. I invoked the Reiki energy to help prepare myself to face my fear of being alone on that night. As I sat in the candlelight, I felt a sense of calm gradually shower down over me, and peace began to permeate the very essence of my being. I became vividly aware of the intensity of the silence. There was absolutely no sound to be heard. I was truly experiencing a “Silent Night”. I allowed my consciousness to merge with the silence, and was in awe of the incredible tranquility I was beginning to feel. All the fear I had expected to feel was transforming into a deep, profound peace.
In that moment I felt so incredibly blessed, and loved. My family and friends were not there with me, but I had never felt so loved in my life. I was so very thankful, and as I was feeling this deep sense of gratitude, I began to hear the sounds of Divine love begin to emerge from the silence. For the first time in my life I actually heard the most beautiful choir of angels singing. They were singing for me, and for everyone who was allowing Divine Love to embrace them, and transform their fears. The angels were celebrating for us, as we were moving from prisons of self-imposed darkness into the full light of Divine Love.
Thank you for “listening” to my story. I wish you a transformational holiday season full of love and choirs of angels celebrating our rebirth.
