DISTAL ATTUNEMENTS ON THE INTERNET and via long distance




I have come across this problem of free distal attunements on the internet lately.

I have also met a few people who have become masters via Internet as well as other people with problems. I would like to develop this topic a little bit for those who want to know the advantages and the disatvantages of the on-line attunement system. The truth is that troubles may occur in this kind of practice. We should not blame Reiki for these or the system in cause or the masters who do the attunements. I think the fault lies in the lack of knowledge of these masters.


For some people these attunements may appear very attractive since they don’t have to pay or work for them. Hence, on the internet you can become a master in a few weeks / months on dozens of systems. I know cases when people had 2-3 mastery level attunments a day. No wonder there are masters with lots of diplomas and no knowledge. Not that I’m a lot better, but the ounce of knowledge I have more (a gift from God that belongs to God) prevents me from making mistakes and hurting myself and the others.

I will present in the following lines the problems that may rise during distal attunements. First of all we should consider the lack of knowledge of the person being attuned. I have studied distal attunements myself, and I know how it is done. You are attuned and then you’re sent a manual on your email.

I know no Qi-Qong master or Christian Orthodox priest to have learnt from books. I haven’t seen yet a Reiki manual that could teach you more than what you learn from personal experience and practice. And for the diploma “hunters” I remind them that it is not the number of diplomas or Reiki systems that makes them better, but what they can do with them. People don’t appreciate things they get too easily or for free. For instance if I get attuned on Shamballa Reiki (one of the most important Reiki systems), and then I pass on to get attuned on another system without learning meditation techniques or using the energies and symbols, then it’s all in vain. Doing other systems and reading manuals won’t make me a real master.

One should also consider the spiritual part of an initiation. All Reiki initiation makes you rise to a different karmic level. However you can’t get to the 10th heaven level in the split of a second, because there are changes, karmic debts, the rise of self-consciousness, so that you can finally evolve. Here the master has a crucial role, because he / she have to know if and when the pupil is ready to go on, or whether he / she should wait a little longer. We are unique and so is our way and evolution rhythm. Getting attunements three times a day/week/month will only accelerate your karma, hence your debts. In such a case one may pay through suffering: illness, accident, loss of house or job, breaking up, bankruptcy. One shouldn’t blame Reiki for these misfortunes because like all thing done without thinking it can turn wrong. For instance, food is not dangerous, but there are people who get sick because of too much eating on holidays.

Another reason for the troubles caused by distal attunements is the healing crisis. It lasts for 21 days so one shouldn’t have other attunements done during that period. Why should anyone have 10 attunements done in only one month? The answer is ignorance, lack of knowledge and interest. During an attunement the inner vibration rises, and in the aftermath, for those 21 days, the physical and energetic bodies have to be brought to the same vibration level. If I get too many attunements in a certain interval of time inner vibration rises abruptly and it burns. Hence the healing crisis due to the elimination of toxic residues, evil energies and entities from the body will be very harsh.

It is as Jesus said “one cannot pour new wine in old barrels”, first you need to clean the barrels, otherwise you do harm to yourselves. Or how to warm frozen hands? You won’t put them into hot water.

Another issue that distal attunements raise regards the Reiki masters who take over the student’s karma during each and every attunement. The principle for this is quiet simple, as Jesus said; the stronger should bear the burden of the weaker. Consequently every master takes over part of the student’s karma, for the later to rise. Just think of those who do 20 attunements a day, 30 days a month, there are 600 attunements every month during which they take over karmic problems, plus their own sins. No wonder they and their families have problems. Somebody has to pay, and if you only take over and have no idea about paying, what then?

Every master has a limit regarding the number of attunements he / she can do. If you pass that limit, you’re in trouble. I am deeply sorry that those who know don’t inform the ignorant.

I also understand that when people hear about karma and karmic debts they run away.

There are many opinions about karma, but if you have knowledge you should let people know what happens to them.

I hope I am well-understood.

Last, but not least, I want to remind you that it is not the number of systems that makes you a good Reiki master or therapist, what really counts is help you give to the others with the gift God has offered you. Otherwise you are just a COLLECTIONER!



Please think about this when I turn you down for attunements and or any other help. I AM THINKING OF YOU, not of myself. If I didn't I would be a lousy teacher/master.

I want the best for you, so understand when I make you wait or turn you away, there is a reason, and when I explain, listen to me, it's for your own good. I want you to learn, to find out, without me telling you every step of the way. This is what makes a good teacher, I make you learn and I protect you when its not right for you.

When you're working with the energies it's not the amount of attunements that counts !! It's what you put into it yourself.

When working with the energies It's not like a candy shop where you can pick everything you want at the same time !!!!

Thank's Ruth, I can see a lot of sense in what you say.

I've seen sites where Reiki Masters are offering every type of Reiki and other energy attunements you can name. I've always wondered how on earth they can be familiar with, and use regularly all of them...I guess the answer is they can't be and don't.

I must admit I am curious about many of the "non Reiki" systems and I think that is fair enough. However after reading some of the freely available manuals, I've realised they aren't for me and I see no point in taking things further.

There are manuals I would like to see, but can't do so without buying an attunement package, so unless I do so...I'll never know!

I totally agree with you Ruth, being attuned by distance does not mean that oneself is ready for the system. As for me, I din't know anything about Reiki when I got attuned so I spended a lot of time reading and learning after being attuned, and I truly hope that the people I have attuned since then have done the same. Being a Reiki Master is after all a commitment to teach and educate others to walk the path of Reiki.

But I got a bit concerned on the part "every master has a limit regarding the number of attunements he / she can do".. I've never heard of that before, can you explain that a little more?

I feel that sometimes we take on a bit too much in life. And again, as you go and you have more students it will all make more sense.

Teachers too can try to teach the world, but in this we might find that we leave things out (by mistake) and rush through, when this should be a time savored event in someone's life.

So with that in mind (and you'll find that others will take it different than you) that we can't take on a 'class', not unless its in person and we make the at dedicated time for a large group, we should be more conscious of the attunements instead of driving home from work and doing an attunement, or watching TV and doing an attunement. When you get emailed with requests and want to accomodate most, we find that we can take on too much. Sometimes demands are put on teachers/Masters and students WILL TELL me how to teach them. There again we need to come to a agreement. No fees and we most will accomdate again time differences, make changes in our lives to enrich others. We understand this when we take this on, but so many don't. It's nice to think that you are the only one, and I hope when I work with that person they do feel that too, but truth to that is, sometimes we are working with many people. We (I) love what I do. I want to spread the world, but in return, burn out can occur. Teachers/masters must know their limits in this respect too.

It's the balance, for if the student must learn, the teacher will learn also about the student. We can take on too much. In this day and age of us being so busy, yet wanting to help everyone we can. We need to learn to take on what we can, without sacrificing the principals that we were taught and hold dear.

Again this is just my opinion and other masters/teachers and/or mod's might have different opinons. (it's what makes the world go round ;D)

It is very easy to be blinded to the true meaning of these Reiki attunements when every time you go on the Internet there is another 'free' reiki system to learn.

It is very tempting to have more and more attunements when you aren't really utilizing the one ones already received.

It is very important to remember that even the most proficient reiki teacher/master still has things to learn.

I find I have to agree with the things you've said, even while my expression of certain principles of it differ. The essence of it I am in total sync with. Being one that was attuned via distance attunement and in one lump some at that, I find that what you've posted here is very true. It's like being thrust into a sea and not knowing how to swim. It is the thing that led me to a place like this in the place, that is to say, a need to understand more completely what it was I was dealing with. It does strain one's personal energy system to do to much at once. And there IS dept to pay, even if it is something as "small" as mood swings. And learning...God, learning is the most important thing. To quote the bible yet again: "In all thy getting, get understanding."

I could go on and on about this, agree with you over and over again. But I will hold here, and leave space for others to speak. Again, blessings to you, my friend. This is something that surely needed to be said.

Hello Ruth, my friend,

I've been pondering on your posts for a while and can say that I find a lot of wisdom and honesty in your words. I think this wisdom only comes from experience and most people (myself very much included) may learn the hard way, especially when it comes to taking on too much.

I resonate with your comments about teaching (in whatever spiritual capacity) and passing attunements are (or should be) a highlight and special time for the student involved. I find it a huge responsibility whenever taking on new students and always try my best to make it a special time, with as much enthusiasm, as if it was the first time I had ever passed an attunment, or whatever I'm teaching. I'm not naive enough to think that I've never failed anybody before, but all we can do is our best.

Hi ruth

Thanks for this post.............I've found that Usui and Seichim have been plenty for me to work with in the last 3 years..............I've never felt that further attunements would 'strengthen' my Reiki............it's the work that you put into it and the experiences that increase the flow of energy.

Sorry to be a nuisance, but just to clarify for me, is the whole of the post your belief, or are you echoing the thoughts of another, in agreement?

I only ask for clarification, you understand. I did get my Master Attunement on-line from the lovely Ricky, after working on my own Reiki practice and understanding for one year. I have worked very hard to progress on this path and felt that distance attunement at Master Level was the only way I could move forward in order to attune my eldest son. He was ready and asked me to attune him, his needs are such that he couldn't go to someone else as I was the one he trusted to work with.

We both found the experience of his attunement very profound, and I asked my Angels and Guides and Goddess to ensure that the attunement would be perfect despite my own limitations. I am certain that they heard.

So you see that I ask only in the spirit of understanding, whether it is your belief that distance attunement is inherently not right?

Also, the site where I found this material also, seemed to suggest that Reiki was aligned with Christianity. Personally I feel that it is spiritual in nature, rather than religious and as such may be just as appropriate for me, a Wiccan, as for someone Christian or Buddhist or Moslem.

I have found that there are a growing number of people that are requesting attunements to the ever growing number of 'reiki systems' without actually doing much work with each system and learning how to use them in the best way.............and I have found that there are people who are receiving attunements to master level and then offering to pass attunements to others within a week.............personally, I find it hard to believe that such people can 'teach' others when they haven't had time to learn from their own experiences.

Like you, I received distance attunements............and I studied and practised with reiki for many months before I started to pass on attunements/experience/knowledge to others.

I believe that as long as we choose our reiki master wisely, and then work with REIKI ENERGY and learn as much as we can to enable us pass on our knowledge others, then there is no problem with distance attunements

I appreciate you answering. I completely agree and totally see where you are coming from.

I also have a problem with the people who are racking up Reiki certificates like there is no tomorrow. I made a point of saying to my son that he can choose to work with whichever elements he wishes - for example if he wants to work with Angels, they are always there, helping him and all he needs to do is ask. It is my belief that Reiki is Reiki is Reiki - its all the same universal energy of love and we can call upon any other energies to guide and assist us.

I worked hard to produce my own Reiki manual, covering everything I felt he should know. We worked through it together but of course, I am here to guide and support him and he is in frequent contact updating me on his progress.

I am again going to throw my 2 cents in again.....

( and I know sometimes I shouldn't but......we all got opinions)

Ok here it is; This was generated from me, by a email I received, making demands on me. I ask few things from others when I work with them, and they couldn't meet what I asked, but in return argued the point with me. Now I'm a overly fair person, most of the times, too nice and was going to accommodate this person, than chose to argue with me again.....

So I declined again.

Those people/ that person will know this is for them.

I felt attacked, and for me to give of my time, wake early so you (them/they)can have your attunement when you want it or stay up late in the night for you, than tried to justify by the lack of inexperience that they hold...I guess I just had enough and typed my heart away.

I didn't mean to get everyone rowled up, so forgive me. But truth of the matter is, the more time that passes the more you will learn. It's not that matter of how many I can get in a month, it DOESN'T MAKE YOU MORE POWERFUL. You got to learn on each level what you have gotten before you can move it......

With most masters or at least the good ones, it can take a year to go to Usui three/master...it took me one year to get to that level.....I can SEE WHY NOW!!!

I had to learn, experience and practice...practice and practice...

For all of you I upset, I'm sorry....but it had to be said, more doesn't mean better!

I understand how you feel about this............a couple of experiences that I have had have now led me to be very choosy about who I will agree to pass on attunements to. I have put in a lot of work myself, it took me a long time to write a manual that I was happy to pass on to others.............so I will now only attune people who can assure me that they will do a similar level of work.
