Distant attunements

After receiving my level 1 attunement I practised as often as I could and tried to learn more about reiki. I didn't feel ready to receive my level 2 attunement for about 18 months, and then I waited another year until I felt ready to receive level 3. I've been attuned to level 3 for a couple of months, but there is no way I feel that I could attune someone else to reiki yet, or even to call myself a reiki master. I hope that in the future, when I have experienced more, I may attune others, but I prefer to learn at my own slow and steady pace, rather than rush in and start attuning left, right and centre.
I think you have to stop and use your intuition and listen to your deeper feelings and act on what feels right. As a student I managed to find a teacher who gave answers that rang true to me and I could tell by her answers that she had the knowledge and experience.
Go with what feels right, both as a student and as a teacher.

Well in comparing Reiki attunements to christianity, remember the person who receives the eucharist does not study or do work to receive the full benefits. It is by grace. And even the priest did not study or do work to give out the blessing, he just received a hands-on thing (an attunement I suppose) and even if his mind wanders or he is sinful, the eucharist is considered "true" and "effective".

I wonder why we teach attunements at the end of the Reiki course, when they are all by the grace of the Universal Energy? Attunements are easy. Healing without controlling the Reiki is the difficult part. Perhaps we should be teaching Reiki 3, then 1 and 2 in that order?

Did you ever ponder why we heal with Reiki by relaxing and letting the energy flow where it wants, but we "control" the experience when trying to attune another person? We think of symbols, we blow energy, we merge our auras with students. We don't trust Reiki to attune somebody all by itself, with just an intention. Why is that?

There is a direct intention attunement method that is explained on this page..... www.pjentoft.com/ReikiMaster.html .....it is used in classes to attune all the people attending the class at the same time. I believe that for many of us, the way that we pass on attunements is part of a ritual, rather than a neccessity.

Hi Ruth I can hear your wisdom and compassion ;D
But i would like to query a couple things..... i don't want this to be an attack or seem like one I am genuinely asking for insight in relation to your post topics as I think this will clarify allot of answers:

1) Getting regular Reiju will increase your Reiki flow
2) Getting a re-attunement in the same style will increase the flow
3) By this theory most Online-Multiple-Masters will increase in flow with every new attunement.
4) We are Guided on our Reiki paths what if we were guided to be attuned into many styles.

so these and similar questions are the ones that will be the ones needed to be answered for online-multiple-masters.
Also can we understand that it is ok to have online attunements it is also ok to have several different styles, but with the understanding that you actually need to know your stuff before moving onto your next or another facet of your Reiki path.......?

and that your post was in an attempt to help others along in their paths with the information that simply living and growing with Reiki is the likely best way to increase its power and beyond that is you need to be knowledge in Reiki being a Master, and further that still it is about love for healing and helping others not about a power boost etc which is ego driven desire.....

I agree with most of the opening article (posted in 2007).
Anyway, sometimes, "those who know don't inform the ignorant" because they know that it wouldn't be opportune and that growth goes on with free choices....
If they did it, there would be (karmic) consequences.
Someone told that "if you pull up a flower, you won't stop spring".
It's true in our case, too. Reiki, by now, is spreaded in this way. Most of the Reiki masters teach without having ever done a healing session with the live supervision of a teacher.... and it's only an example.
In my country (Italy), people are confused at the time of deciding to attend a Reiki class and to find a Reiki Teacher. It's impossibile to define what a Reiki teacher is.
But this is only a moment, and nothing is evil or bad. I think that all is useful to go ahead in growth.
We'll reach a saturation point soon, and at that moment, all Souls that have made this choice, will simply have learnt a lot.
I learnt Usui, Karuna and Komyo Reiki methods from a "live" teacher, but in respect to other systems (as kundalini reiki, violet flame, etc) I'm in the chain, too.

This is only my opinion, obviously. But this is the reason why I offer only the free attunement in my system (that requires 2nd Usui/Komyo level in advance) and I don't offer Usui attunements via long distance.
