hello everyone just thought i would share some breathing techniques i found in a book called chakra meditations
the first breathing technique is the alternate nostril breathing
1. sit in a comfortable meditation position, preferably with your legs crosse. keep your back straight. raise your right hand in vishnu mudra (fold your right index finger and middle fingers into your right palm, palm facing you) and depress your right nostril with your thumb. breath in through your left nostril for 4 seconds.
2. also close your left nostril by depressing it with the ring fingerof your right handand little finger. try to hold your breath without strain for 16 seconds.
3. release your thumb from your right nostril, keeping your left nostril closed with your ring and little fingers. breathe out through your right nostril for 8 seconds.
4. keeping your left nostril closed, breathe in through your right nostril for 4 seconds.
5. gently pinch both nostrils shut by replacing your thumb, and try to hold your breath for 16 seconds
6. release the finger on your left nostril, keeping the right nostril closed with your thumb, breathe out for 8 seconds. this exhalation completes one round of alternate nostril breathing.
7. build up tp 10 rounds of this breathing practice daily, preferably before beginning any form of meditation.
** if you can not do the breaths for the specified amount of times you can reduce the times by making sure you keep with the 1:4:2 ratio. *****
